MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Chief of Somalia’s custodial corps General Mahad Adan on Thursday accused of bodyguards of former president, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud of trying to force their way past a security checkpoint, prompting clashes with prison guards who were manning the checkpoint near the jail.
Speaking to the media in Mogadishu, Geneeral Adan said his forces were position of defense as Mohamud’s bodyguards allegedly opened fire at the checkpoint.
However, Wednesday’s incident didn’t cause any casualty. The Former President is yet to comment on the incident
Somalia’s Justice Minister, Abdiqadir Mohamed Nur apologized for yesterday’s incident. The minister expressed their regret over the shooting.
”We have appointed a committee to launch an investigation into the matter and hope such incidents don’t happen again,” said Nur.
Senior opposition lawmaker Abdirisack Mohamed yesterday demanded an investigation and action against the shooting terming it ‘an attempted assassination’.
”Prime Minister Mohamed Hussein Roble must investigate the assassination attempt against the ex president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. I myself was travelling with the president along with the former chief of NISA Sanbalolshe. This is an unacceptable provocation against the president,” Mohamed said.
