Somalia’s ambassador to Benelux and EU, Ali Saed Fiqi expected to brief the Upper House over the country’s recent operations to repatriate Somali migrants stranded in the war-torned Libya.
The ambassador is expected to talk about refugee issues, Somali migrants stranded in Europe, the number of Somali migrants repatriated and the situation of Somalis in foreign jails.
The latest batch of Somali migrants from Libya’s detention centres arrived in Mogadishu last month.
The Programme so far returned close to thirty Somali migrants since it was launched late last year.
Somali government is carrying out initiatives to return over 5000 Somalis who were stranded in Libya after the number of illegal migrants housed in Libyan detention rose last year.
Last year alone, AU report estimated 400,000 to 700,000 African migrants to be in the hands of armed groups in the chaotic North African country
