MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali government is expected to conclude three-day joint conference on human rights within the context of the constitutional review process.
The conference which was jointly organised by the Ministry of Constitutional Affairs and the Ministry of Women has kicked off on Sunday.
According to the ministry of Constitution Affairs, the conference focuses on wide range issues including Politically unrepresented people and the Constitution.
The participants are also discussing the inclusion of Persons with disability rights in Chapter 2, domestication of the CRPD, gender equity and political representation of women: Strategies on achieving equity and Internally displaced people and the Constitution.
While addressing the participants of the conference, Somali minister of Constitution affairs, Abdirahman Hosh Jibril said the process of constitution view will engage all citizens so as to ensure their views are represented in the new constitution.
On her part, Minister of Women and Human Rights Deqa Yasin praised the ministry of the Constitution for its efforts to conduct the Constitutional Review Process in an inclusive manner.
Several individuals from civil society members including people with disability, women and politically unrepresented groups have also addressed the conference.
Ramla Ibrahim who was representing Women welcomed the opportunities given to the society to share their views and ask questions to the panelists.
“There was a mass of human rights violation in Somalia over the years (When the country was in civil war), that is why we need to incorporate a chapter about human rights in our provisional Constitution,” Ramla said.
