Somalia’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, Abdiqadir Ahmed Kheyr held meeting with Turkish foreign minister, Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu ahead of Turkey-Africa Summit in Istanbul on Sunady.
The officials discussed issues on security, investment and the bilateral relations between the two countries and means of enhancing them.
Turkey which is one of the closest allies of Somalia since 2011 is taking part in the process of rebuilding Somalia through development projects.
The country accomplished projects including rebuilding Schools, roads, terminals and training Somalia’s army which accelerated the state’s recovery from two decade long civil war.
Turkey-Africa conference
Somalia attends Second Turkey-Africa Ministerial Conference which is scheduled to kick off today in Stanbul.
The conference which is co-organized Turkey foreign ministry and AU commission seeks to review progress achieved with regards to Turkey-Africa.
In a statement issued ahead of the conference, the sides termed it symbolic meeting which coincides with the administration 10th anniversary of the African Union Summit of 2018 where Turkey was declared a strategic partner of AU.
In that sense, the ministers are taking into account the importance of the anniversary will see how they can combine their efforts to further expand Africa-Turkey partnership at all levels and in all fields based on equality and mutual benefit,” the statement reads in part.
The conference will be attended by delegates from Rwanda, Guinea, Egypt, Nigeria, Algeria, Senegal, Libya, South Africa, Uganda, Ethiopia, Togo and Gabon.
Djibouti, Ivory Coast, Sudan, Tanzania and Somalia are attending the conference as observers, according to the organizers.
The first Turkey-Africa summit was held in 2014 in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea.
