MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)- Reconstruction of Somali National Theatre resumes a day after twin blasts hit Mogadishu.
The reconstruction of Somali National theatre resumes this morning barely a day after twin suicide explosions were targeted at a checkpoint near the cultural centre.
The aftermath of the attack has caused slight damages to the facility.
The director of the centre, Osman Abdullahi Gure vowed to continue the renovations saying terror attacks will not deter the efforts to rebuild the cultural hub.
“The attacks in the city like that of yesterday will not stop us from rebuilding the national theatre,” he told reporters on Sunday during a press conference.
“We send our condolences to the families and friends of those killed in the attack while wishing a quick recovery to the injured,” Gure added.
The staff and management of the ministry of the constitution were present to take part in the clean up at the blast scene today.
Months ago, the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo launched the project to rebuild key public structures in the country such as the national theatre, national library and stadium Mogadishu.
The project dubbed ‘Isxilqaan’ loosely translated self-reliance is meant to spearhead renovations program on key public institutions without foreign funding or help.
More than twenty people were killed and scores others wounded on Saturday following twin suicide car bomb attacks which occurred near the presidential palace.
Armed group al- Shabaab has claimed responsibility for the blasts.
