MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Federal Government of Somalia has today started registration of the commercial airlines for the first time in over 30 years.
Somali Civil Aviation Authority has issued the first registration and the licence certificate to local airlines operating in the country following a launching ceremony held in Mogadishu.
During the event at Aden Adde International Airport, Mohamed Abdullahi Salad, Minister for Transport and Aviation said the government officially commenced the registration of airlines operating in Somalia.
Two privately own carriers passenger Airlines have become the first companies to receive official registration and licences.
Freedom airlines and Hala airlines have secured their licences issued by Somali Civil Aviation Authority.
For the last 30 years, the local airlines plying various routes in Somalia have been operating with registration and licences from the neighboring countries such as Kenya and Ethiopia due to what initially was said to be the absence of the civil aviation authority after the collapse of Somali government in the early 1990s.
