The breakaway Somaliland and Somali government have had discussions on the resumption of Somalia-Somaliland talks in last week, official said Thursday.
In 2015, Turkish-sponsored Talks between the sides collapsed after Somaliland tabled hard condition.
Speaking to the media in Hargeisa, Somaliland foreign minister Sa’ad Ali Shire predicted that they would resume talks with Somali government.
He said that he had talks with Somali foriegn minister, Ahmed Issa Awad during his stay in Ethiopian capital, Addis Ababa.
“Though I did not meet with President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo, I held talks with Somali foriegn minister, Ahmed Issa on the commencement of the talks between Somalia and Somaliland,” said Shire.
The minister pointed out that the region’s plan to hold talks with Mogadishu government being the only solution to solve the differences between the sides.
Somaliland declared session after Somali central government led by late Mohamed Siyad Barre collapsed in 1991.
The region which is located northern of the horn of African nation is yet get recognition from the international community.
Somali leaders want to Somaliland to reunite with Somalia, an approach dismissed politicians in Somaliland.
