MOGADISHU ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The government of Somalia has severed diplomatic ties with Kenya on Tuesday.
According to a statement by the Ministry of Information, the move is in response to constant interference by Nairobi in Mogadishu’s internal affairs.
Mogadishu ordered all the Kenyan diplomats in the country to leave within the next seven days.
‘’Somalia wants all its diplomats to come back to Mogadishu and Kenyan diplomats to leave the country within the next seven days,’’ said, Information Minister Osman Dubbe.
The new diplomatic tiff comes after Somalia ordered the Kenyan envoy out of the country on November 29 while directing the ambassador to Nairobi back home for a consultation.
The escalation of the diplomatic row between the two neighboring states which cooperate on security and trade also comes after President Uhuru Kenyatta welcomed Somaliland leader Muse Bihi Abdi in Nairobi for an official visit on Monday.
In a press statement, Nairobi said the two sides discussed ways to boost cooperation.
Somaliland which is not internationally recognized and still considered part of Somalia declared succession in the early 1990s from Somalia.
