Mogadishu (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s National Intelligence Agency (NISA) on Saturday said that it had seized illicit shipments of military hardware and explosive materials that were apparently bound for the al-Shabaab group.
The seizure of the consignment comes barely two days after the forces intercepted a cache of weapons and military supplies.
At a news conference in Mogadishu, Somalia’s State Minister of Defense Mohamed Ali Haga said the agency found the arms at Mogadishu’s port.
“At the port of Mogadishu, NISA personnel discovered a shipment of military hardware and explosive materials concealed within containers posing as authorized business imports,” Haga said.
Haga said 10 suspects, including licensed businessmen involved in importing goods, have been apprehended in connection with the operation.
Last Thursday, NISA had seized two illicit shipments of military hardware and explosive materials that were apparently bound for al-Shabaab group.
