MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia is facing a third wave of coronavirus infections, months after lifting tough restrictions meant to limit its spread.
According to the ministry of health, 203 new COVID-19 infections from a sample size of 3.441 tests conducted over the past 72 hours have been recorded in the country, bringing the country’s total number of cases to 15,658.
The country’s death toll remains at 832 as 19 new fatalities were registered in the period.
Of the new cases, 93 were female while 110 were male.
The ministry confirmed that Somali capital had recorded 115. Puntland state recorded 72 cases of the virus.
Some 94 people recovered from the disease, bringing the total number of successful recoveries to 7,661.
The horn of Africa nation which recorded its first of coronavirus mid-March last year had lifted local and international flights ban late last year. The country also reopened learning institutions.
Somalia rolled out its mass vaccinations last March, having received 300,000 doses of the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccines under the COVAX facility.
On April 11, the horn of African country received 200,000 doses of Sinopharm vaccines donated by China to boost its fight against the COVID-19 pandemic.
