MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali Naval Force is undergoing rigorous restructuring process to avert threats in the horn of Africa territorial waters, Navy Force Commander, Admiral Abas Amin Ali has said.
Speaking during an interview with Somali National News Agency (SONNA) on Wednesday, Admiral Amin said the force has stepped up training and equipment of the significant unit.
“We have embarked on the implementation orders from the head of state regarding thorough reform in terms of capacity building and modern equipment.”
Admiral Amin added that he is confident the ongoing reforms will improve the operations of the force which was recovering from wounds of the civil strife.
Partners such as Turkey and Italian governments are helping the Federal government of Somalia in training and equipment of Somali Navy Force.
The force which was established in 1965 is tasked to protect the horn of Africa’s 3300-kilometer coastline.
The coast guard is set to take over from international naval fleet charged to protect Somali waters from piracy and other violations.
