MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia will never join any alliance grouping against the oil-rich country, Qatar, Somalia’s Foreign Affairs Minister said.
Minister Ahmed Isse Awad said the horn of African nation is committed to keeping its neutrality in the Gulf crisis.
During a symposium at the Qatari foreign ministry’s diplomatic institute in the capital Doha, the minister emphasized that his country has no interest in joining any alliance or coalition standing against Qatar.
“Somalia is committed to neutrality as far as the Gulf crisis is concerned,” Awad said.
On Sunday, Minister Awad had held talks with his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman al-Thani in Doha.
The meeting which was organized by the Qatari ministry for Foreign Affairs focused on broad range issues affecting both countries.
Among other issues development projects and the relations between the two countries were discussed.
Somalia and Qatar have developed close relations since the country chose a neutral stance on Gulf states and Egypt blockade on Qatar a year ago.
