Somali Workers Tuesday morning will gather in Mogadishu and several other major towns to commemorate 2018 Labour Day.
Federation of Somali Trade Unions (FESTU) will be organizing a ceremony in the capital which will workers, Ministers, MPs, trade union leaders and civil society.
The labourers are expected to discuss the challenges facing the umbrella and the achievements gained for the last 12 month.
Somali Minister for Finance Abdirahman Duale Beileh has extended a congratulatory message to the workers across the country on the commemoration of this day.
“I send my congratulatory messages to Somali workers who are the backbone of the economy and development. Success and Progress,” said Beileh in a post on his Twitter account.
The Somali government has been in recent years struggling to reorganize and improve the conditions of the civil servants and other workers in the country.
The government drafted the labour bill aiming to regulate the country’s largest economic builders and to preserve their rights.
Irregular payments for the army and workers have long been a major concern before the government led by President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo declared the fight against corruption and started regular payments for its workers.
Due to lack of functioning labour law, the civil service commission in the country frequently complain about abuses by their superiors, nepotism and meager salaries.
