The Somali government has lauded the response of the New Zealand prime minister, Jacinda Arden during the terror attack on a mosque in Christchurch town.
A man said to be a white racist had opened fired at Muslim congregation mid this month.
The shooting at Al Noor Mosque and the Linwood Islamic Centre in Christchurch that killed 50 and injured 50 Muslims.
Among the victims were five Somali people including a five-year-old child.
Addressing at an emergency meeting of the Organization of the Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on the fight against hate and intolerance towards Muslims in New Zealand, the Somali minister for Foreign Affairs, Ahmed Isse Awad condoled with the victims of the heinous attack.
“I would like to express our deepest sympathy and condolences to the families, the Muslim community, People and Government of New Zealand on the victims of the Christchurch massacre on 15 March 2019. ” Minister Awad said while Istanbul, “We in Somalia are grieving for all the innocent victims and are appalled by this horror of the tragic massacre.”The minister paid a glowing tribute to the extraordinary leadership qualities demonstrated by Prime Minister Jacinda Arden of New Zealand in her handling of the horrific attack on her Muslim community and on her great nation.
“Prime Minister Jacinda Arden has shown to the world that New Zealand and I quote her in her own words, a harmonious and inclusive nation. In these testing times of her nation, the Prime Minister has shown grit, courage, dignity and empathetic quality leadership. We thank the people, government and the Prime Minister of New Zealand ” he praised.
New Zealand police have three people in connection with the attack.
Among the detainees is the man suspected to have carried out the attack.
