KIGALI (Halbeeg News) – Somalia and Kenya have agreed to enhance cooperation on operations against al-Shabaab fighters thanks to talks between Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and Kenyan counterpart William Ruto, in Rwanda’s capital, Kigali.
According to a statement by Villa Somalia, the discussions centred on the pressing challenges facing the region.
The topics discussed include efforts to counter terrorism and explore further avenues of cooperation.
Both leaders reaffirmed the enduring Somalia-Kenya partnership and fostered strong people-to-people relations.
They expressed a mutual commitment to advancing regional peace, stability, and development guided by shared values.
Kenya, which lies south of Somalia, has thousands of military soldiers working under the framework of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (Atmis).
East Africa deployed its troops in Somalia in 2011 after dozens of foreign kidnaps along the Kenyan coastal regions.
