MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia and Indonesia have agreed to enhance their bilateral relations following talks between officials from both countries.
According to a statement, the Somali Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the Federal Government of Somalia, Abshir Omar Jama (Huruse) has received the Ambassador Indonesia to Somalia at the Headquarters of the Foreign Ministry.
Both officials discussed ways to boost the between the countries as well as security, and education sectors.
“Today I received the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Somalia, Dr Mohamed Hery Saripudin. We discussed the importance of strengthening relations between both countries in the fields of trade, diplomacy, security, and education,” the statement reads in part.
The statement added, “Ministry shall continue to engage with its Indonesian counterpart at the national level (creating business opportunities and improving the facilitation of visas) and the international level (garnering support for Somalia’s security-related agenda across international forums)”.
Somalia in the Horn of Africa has special ties to Indonesia as a country with a Muslim majority population.
Dozens of Somalis have studied in Indonesia and some of the Somali diaspora even naturalized as Indonesian citizens.
They are the drivers for sociocultural relations between Indonesia and Somalia, as well as one of the main agents of trade between Indonesia and Somalia.
