MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud applauded Turkey for continuing to assist his country’s development, security, and humanitarian needs following talks with Turkey’s Turkish Ambassador to Somalia Ibrahim Mete Yagli in the central town of Dhusamareb.
During the meeting, President Hassan and the ambassador wide range issues including bilateral relations, Somalia’s security developments and other issues of mutual interest.
“During the meeting, the president commended the distinguished close relations between the two brotherly countries,” Somalia’s Presidency said in a statement on X formerly known as Twitter.
Somalia and Turkey have been enjoying close bilateral relations for over a decade now.
Turkey has been a reliable partner in rebuilding Somalia across all sectors and has been a crucial strategic partner in training and equipping Somali troops, particularly the Gorgor Commando Brigade of the national army and the Haramcad (Cheetah) Special Police Unit.
Turkey’s biggest overseas military training base, which was inaugurated in 2017, is in Somalia and is also among the largest foreign-run military centres in the country.
Turkey has built an 80,000-square-metre embassy in Mogadishu, which is its biggest embassy in Africa.
