MOGADISHU( Halbeeg News)-Somalia Finance Minister, Abdulrahman Duale Beyle has launched training for a section of national police force tasked to enforce tax collection in Mogadishu on Wednesday.
Two hundred police officers will undergo intensive training on revenue collection laws, types of duty, the rights and responsibilities attached.
The minister said, his office will closely work with the various police units to enforce the important law.
The head of Somali police revenue collection department, General Abdullahi Hassan Barise has called upon the officers to take full responsibility of the new task to be assigned by taking care of the collections made during the process.
The officers were selected from various departments of the law enforcement sector.
According to the ministry of finance, tax collection which is vital for the operations of the various departments of the government, as well as the national budget, has seen a tremendous increase in past years.
Mogadishu port and Aden Abdulle international airport that is crucial for the country’s economy registered the most significant growth in terms of the revenue collections for the past two years.
The ministry of finance is working with finance ministries of regional states to boost the country’s revenue collections.
