ASMARA (Halbeeg News) – Somalia, Ethiopia, and Eritrea have signed a joint agreement which will see the countries cooperate in security and political and social affairs.
The leaders of Somalia and Ethiopia, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and Abiye Ahmed respectively arrived in Asmara on Wednesday for tripartite Summit on economic and integration.
On the second day of a two-day State visit by Somalia and Ethiopia leaders to Eritrea, the three nations agreed to further discuss means enhance the economic, political, social and cultural cooperation.
The three leaders’ agreement is said to have focused on enhancing regional and continental security which are a prerequisite for development.
“It is honour to sign a joint agreement with their Excellencies President Isaias Afweki and PM Abiy Ahmed in Asmara today,” President Farmajo said in a post on his Twitter account, “We agreed to enhance economic, political, Social, cultural and security cooperation.”

President Farmajo is expected to conclude his two-day official visit to Eritrea later today.
The deal comes barely two days after the China-Africa forum in which Somalia appended its signature the Belt and Road Initiative was concluded in Beijing.
President’s Wednesday visit will be the second after July’ s visit in which the countries agreed to restore their relations for the first time in 15 years.
The two countries agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations and exchange ambassadors, promote bilateral trade and investment, as well as educational and cultural exchanges.
