NAIROBI (Halbeeg News) – Kenya has accused Somalia of backstabbing saying the horn of Africa nation encouraged attacks against Kenyans.
In a statement, Kenya argued that Somalia created hostilities against its forces working under the framework of African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM).
“Somalia has incited hostility against Kenya and actively contributed to the climate that encourages attacks against Kenyan citizens and against Kenyan forces in Somalia and even threatening their ability to continue to support AMISOM,” the statement by Kenya foreign ministry reads in part.
Kenya further went ahead to blame Somalia for undermining the fundamental need for ability and predictability of boundaries among states.
Somali government, which previously accused Kenya of interference that even severed the diplomatic ties of the states, has not yet commented on the accusations against it.
Last year, Somalia cut diplomatic ties with its southwestern neighbour Kenya, accusing it of violating Somali sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The horn of Africa nation further sought the intervention of IGAD, urging the bloc to probe political violations and constant, blatant interference by Kenya against Somalia’s sovereignty.
Both Somalia and Kenya are contesting ownership of a triangular territory measuring 100,000km2 in the Indian Ocean boundary.
The oral proceedings of the court was concluded yesterday after Kenya rejected to participate in the process.
Somalia went to court in 2014 following what it termed as failure to settle the matter with her neighbour, Kenya bilaterally. The court verdict is final and not subject to appeal.
