MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia’s government has ordered the deputy head of the African Union Mission in Somalia (Amisom) deputy Simon Mulongo country to leave in seven days, accusing him of ‘hindering Somali security strategy.’
In a letter addressed to African Union, the Somali foreign ministry said Mulongo was no longer welcome in Somalia for ‘engaging in activities incompatible with AMISOM mandate and Somali security strategy’.
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the federal government of Somalia commends the African Union Commission and we are honoured the commission that the following person has been designated a ‘persona non grata’ and has been instructed to leave Somalia within 7 days,” the letter reads in part. “Mulongo was involved in activities that are inconsistent with Amisom’s mandate and security strategy in Somalia.”
Abdirizak followed shortly with a tweet noting Somalia would hold accountable senior AMISOM leadership.
The FGS will hold accountable AMISOM personnel, particularly those at the leadership level, who are expected to be beyond reproach in their integrity as they discharge their duty under the UN/AU mandate.”
“Somalia will realize the implementation of the STP (Somali Transition Plan), everyone will be held accountable for their action, no one will be allowed to hinder the Somali nation, we have simply come too far,” the minister said in a tweet.
Neither AU nor Amisom has commented on the latest development to expel its official from Somalia.
AU deployed troops in Somalia more than ten years ago after Somalia’s TFG leaders asked for support to restore peace and stability in the horn of the African nation.
