Somali government Wednesday congratulated the U.S. as marked 242nd years of independence.
President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo sent a message, stating: “On behalf of the Government and the people of Somalia, I extend my cordial congratulations to the nation and the great people of America on this special day of independence.”
Mr. Farmajo commended the United States for its support to Somalia saying the United States of America was a valuable supporter and ally of Somalia in many areas of mutual benefit.
“We are grateful for this enduring demonstration of solidarity. Thanks to an engaged, active and productive Somali-American Diaspora community, our two nations have forged strong people to people relations which benefits our two sides,” the President said.
“Given the importance Somalia attached to its relations with the USA, we seek to strengthen our two sides bilateral relations further to provide the best opportunity for progress and prosperity for our two nations.”
On the 4th July Americans come together to mark Independence Day – the birth of their nation and the biggest holiday across the pond.
The day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues and picnics, family reunions and baseball games.
The day – a federal holiday – marks when the US won independence from the British Empire after the Revolutionary War.
The 4th of July celebration commemorates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence 241 years ago on July 4, 1776.
