Mogadishu, (Halbeeg News) – The Federal Government of Somalia has issued a statement condemning a recent an attack on Somali Security forces in Dollow district, Gedo region by Ethiopian military forces.
In the statement, Somalia termed the incident as unacceptable saying that such acts would only undermine the trust and peace-building efforts from Ankara, Turkey early this month.
“The recent attack on Somali security forces in Dollow by Ethiopian military forces is unacceptable. Such acts undermine the trust and peace-building efforts from the Ankara Meeting. We urge Ethiopia to demonstrate the same through concrete actions, not just words,” State Minister of the Ministry of foreign Affairs, Ali M. Omar said in post on X Tuesday.
The statement stated that at approximately 10:00 on Tuesday, Ethiopian forces launched an unprovoked and unexpected attack on positions stationed by the Somali National Army (SNA) in Doolow, located in the Gedo region.
“Tragically, during the attack, Ethiopian forces inflicted casualties, including fatalities and injuries to Somali personnel stationed at these bases. Additionally, they injured civilian residents in the area,” the statement reads.
The Somali Federal Government warned that it will not remain silent in the face of such clear violations of Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
However, the Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs dismissed the accusations, terming them as baseless and instigated by unnamed elements to derail the normalization of relations between Ethiopia and Somalia.
In a statement released Tuesday, Ethiopia claimed that third parties, intent on destabilizing the Horn of Africa, were behind the incident.
The Ethiopian government reiterated its dedication to strengthening bilateral ties with Somalia as expressed in the Ankara Declaration, which emphasizes collaboration and regional peace.
