MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News)– – Somali military has claimed to have killed 117 al-Shabaab fighters in security operations in central Somalia.
In a statement, Somali National Army Infantry commander, Gen. Bihi said the operations were jointly conducted by the Somali military backed by Galgadud forces.
Aerial bombardments were part of the operations to target al-Shabaab fighters in central Somalia.
There were no independent sources to come to the claims of the government.
Somali government backed by local clan militias had launched operations against al-Shabaab fighters in south-central Somalia.
The allied forces liberated dozens of villages and towns in Hiiraan, Galgadud, Mudug and Middle Shabelle region.
The government also claimed to have killed more than 2,000 al-Shabaab fighters since the operations commenced last year.
