MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia and China have agreed to enhance bilateral relations following phone call discussions.
Somali minister for foreign affairs, Ahmed Issa Awad said that the two countries enjoy a profound traditional friendship, expressing gratitude to China for its valuable support and assistance to Somalia over the years.
“I spoke on the phone with China’s State Councillor and Foreign Minister H.E Wang Yi. We discussed Somalia-China relations and cooperation,”Awad said. “In four weeks time, we shall celebrate 60 years of Diplmatic relations with China. Our two nations always stand in solidarity with each other.”
On his side, Chinese State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi has expressed China’s readiness to work with Somalia to push forward bilateral relations to new height.
Wang said China was among the first countries to acknowledge Somalia’s independence, and Somalia was the first East African country to establish diplomatic relations with the People’s Republic of China.
The minister stated that China appreciates Somalia’s adherence to the one-China principle and firmly supports Somalia’s efforts to safeguard national sovereignty, dignity and territorial integrity.
