MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia has urged the government of Kenya to resume the operation of its embassy in Mogadishu less than a week after the East Africa nation lifted flights ban on Somalia.
In a statement, Somali foreign ministry Saturday confirmed that it had normalized its diplomatic relations with Kenya saying it will neighborly re-open its embassy in Kenya.
“The resumption of full diplomatic relations will be a positive start to the commencement of bilateral discussions between the two nations,” the statement reads in part.
Last Thursday, Kenya rescinded its ban on flights to and from Somalia barely a month after it closed its airspace amid an ongoing diplomatic row.
The Kenyan Civil Aviation Authority have announced the lifting of a previous suspension on flights between Kenya and Somalia in NOTAM Report issued today.
But Kenya noted it hoped that the cancellation of the ban which was to last until August ‘will cause full normalization of relations’, including notably trade.
On this part of trade, Kenya hopes Somalia will lift the ban on khat imports from Kenya by Somalia.
