DHUSAMAREEB (Halbeeg News) – Somali government is planning to conclude the first phase of the operations to liberate areas under the control of al-Shabaab group ahead of the launched the second operation dubbed black lioon.
President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has travelled to Dhusamareb, a town in central Somalia region, Galgaduud to expedite the resumption to complete the first phase of the operations to liberate the remaining areas in Galmudug state.
The president was welcomed at the airport by Galmudug Regional State President Ahmed Abdi Kariye and Vice President Ali Dahir Eid, along with the Speaker and Members of the Parliament of Galmudug.
According to the state-owned media, the president will temporarily move his office to Dhuusamareeb, where he will lead operations in the days to come.
President Mohamud underscored the paramount significance of ongoing stabilization efforts within the Galmudug region, highlighting the administration’s commitment to conflict resolution, community engagement, and bolstering national defense capabilities.
The president is expected to announce the commencement of the second phase of the operations upon completion of the first of the operation.
An estimated 8,000 troops have been strategically deployed to Galmudug to boost counter-terrorism measures, forming the critical second phase of the anti-terror campaign.
The operations dubbed Black Lion are expected to jointly conduct by Somali forces, clan militias as well as troops from the neighbouring countries.
Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti which all have troops working under the framework of the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (Atmis) have accepted to help the Horn of Africa nation carry out the operations against al-Shabaab.
