ISTANBUL (Halbeeg News) – Somali president Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has held talks with his Turkish Counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul.
According to a statement from the Turkish presidency, the closed-door meeting between Erdoğan and Farmajo at Vahdettin Pavilion in the Üsküdar district lasted for one hour and fifteen minutes.
The meeting which took place on Friday focused on means to further strengthen the strong bilateral relations through increased Win-Win cooperation, according to Villa Somalia.
The visit comes barely five months after Farmajo’s last trip to Turkey where he attended President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s inauguration ceremony at the Presidential Complex in June.
Turkey operates a military training base in Somalia’s capital Mogadishu that is among its largest overseas military facilities.
It has the capacity to train more than 1,500 troops at a time, according to the Somali government
The Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu is the largest Turkish embassy in the world.
According to Anadolu Agency, Turkey has provided over $500 million in aid to Somalia and helped the Somali people in such areas as education, health, roads, ports, airports, fisheries, and energy since 2011.
