MOGADISHU ( HALBEEG NEWS) –The Federal Government of Somalia and the Republic of Turkey have agreed to enhance the existing security cooperation between the two countries.
The renewed calls were made during meetings between Somalia’s new Internal Security Minister Hassan Hundubey Jimale and ambassador of Turkey Mehmet Yilmaz in Mogadishu on Tuesday.
“Honored to host H.E. Hassan Hundubey Jimale, Minister of Internal Security of the Federal Republic of Somalia, at our Embassy. We discussed ways to enhance ongoing security cooperation between our countries.” Turkish diplomatic mission confirmed the meeting.
The Minister thanked the Turkish government for the support saying the unwavering backing by Ankara in the past decade was key to the return of peace and stability in the horn of the African nation.
The new security cooperation pledge between Mogadishu and Ankara comes weeks before the kickoff of parliamentary elections in Somalia.
Turkey and Somalia share strong diplomatic ties backed by a defense pact that saw hundreds of Somali special forces trained and equipped by the government of President Erdogan.
