MONREAL ( Halbeeg News) – The Federal Government of Somalia and the sultanate of Oman have agreed to resume direct flights between the two countries on Saturday.
Somalia’s Transport and Aviation Minister, Mohamed Salad Omar raised the issue during a meeting with his Omani counterpart, Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Salim al Futaisi in Montreal, Canada during the annual International Civil Aviation Organization forum.
“Our meeting discussed ways to resume direct flights and cooperate on the development of transport and aviation sector between the two countries.” Minister Omar said.
Transport and Aviation Minister further added that second meeting to finalize the agreement will be held in the Omani capital, Muscat next month to kick off the implementation process.
The Somali government has officially regained the control and management of its airspace in December 2017.
It was run by the United Nations International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) regional office in Nairobi for 27 years before the handover.
The horn of African airspace has become a significant route for the major international airlines mainly Emirates and Qatar airways since the conflict between the Yemeni forces backed by Saudi coalition intensified.
