MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia and Kenya foreign minister have on Wednesday discussed the efforts to fully restore diplomatic ties between the two neighbouring countries.
In a statement, Somalia said Foreign Ministers of Somalia and Kenya, Mohamed Abdirizak Mohamud and Raychelle Omamo respectively spoke on telephone and reconfirmed the need to expeditiously reopen their two respective Missions of Kenya and Somalia in Nairobi and Mogadishu.
Both officials emphasized the importance of normalizing diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The Ministers expressed a strong wish to improve trade, security and cultural relations between Somalia and Kenya.
According to the statement, they agreed to keep bilateral diplomatic channels of communications open between the two Capitals in all matters of future strategic diplomatic relations.
Last Saturday, Somalia urged the government of Kenya to resume the operation of its embassy in Mogadishu.
The horn of Africa nation confirmed that it had normalized its diplomatic relations with Kenya saying it will neighborly re-open its embassy in Kenya.
Two weeks, Kenya rescinded its ban on flights to and from Somalia barely a month after it closed its airspace amid an ongoing diplomatic row.
