MOGADISHU ( HALBEEG NEWS) – The Federal Government of Somalia and the Republic of Finland agreed to boost already existing strong bilateral ties between their states.
The commitment was made during a phone conversation between Somali Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Minister Ahmed Isse Awad and his Finish counterpart Pekka Havisto.
The two diplomats discussed ongoing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19 and updates on political and security situation in the horn of the African state ahead of upcoming elections next year.
The latest updates on Djibouti initiated talks between Mogadishu and the self-declared state of Somaliland was also top on the agenda between the two foreign ministers.
“I spoke on the phone with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Finland, H.E Pekka Havisto. We discussed COVID19 and the political and security situation in #Somalia. The preparations for elections and Somalia-Somaliland talks. We agreed to further strengthen cooperation between the Flag of Somalia and Flag of Finland.
Finland provides support to Somalia in various areas including reconstruction through political dialogue, development cooperation, crisis management, and humanitarian aid.
Helsinki planned budget frame for Somalia in 2017–2020 is EUR 25.7 million.
