CAIRO (Halbeeg News)-Somalia and Egypt have agreed on bilateral security cooperation following discussions in Cairo.
In a meeting Somali interior minister, Mohamed Abukar Islow had a lengthy talk with his Egyptian counterpart, minister Mahmoud Tawfiq on wide range issues among training of Somali forces.
Speaking at the press conference after the meeting, Somali minister for Interior emphasized the need for security cooperation between the two countries.
He noted Egypt and Somalia have common challenges of repelling attacks from ISIS and al-Qaeda groups.
“We need to work hand in hand to over challenges facing our countries. This can only be resolved through unity. Egypt has footsteps to be followed,” he said.
On his part, Egypt’s interior minister said his country is prepared to offer its security expertise to Somalia in the framework of deepening cooperation between the two countries.
He stressed on the need to increase joint efforts and deepen cooperation between security services to confront transboundary threats that affect people’s security and stability.
He also pointed to the importance of continued cooperation between the information systems to undermine criminal and terrorist schemes aimed at destabilizing security and stability.
