MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somalia government has accused Kenya and Djibouti of trying to interfere with the outcome of AU meeting on the political crisis on Horn of Africa nation.
A statement released, the Federal Government said that both Kenya and Djibouti were bent on interfering with the result of the AU meeting.
“It has come to our attention that two AUSPC members, namely the Republic of Kenya and the Republic of Djibouti, are engaged in sinister campaigns aimed at derailing the political process in Somalia by trying to influence the outcome of the of AUPSC meeting to the detriment of the future of the Somali people,” the statement read in part.
The accusations come amid African Union Peace and Security Council meeting has today over Somalia’s electoral deadlock opened in Addis Ababa.
The meeting follows President Mohamed Farmaajo’s visit to the Democratic Republic of Congo on Monday where he announced an AU intervention in the political stalemate.
Farmaajo had held talks with DRC’s Felix Tshisekedi who is the current chair of the African Union.
“I welcome the African Union to take a leading role in facilitating an election process in which every citizen elects their representatives through free and fair elections. All Somali stakeholders will actively participate in the dialogue on the future of our democracy.” Farmaajo said.
