ISTANBUL(Halbeeg News) – Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Friday held talks with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Istanbul.
According to sources quoted by Daily Sabah, in a closed-door discussion, the two leaders talked about Israel and Hamas, as well as the expanding humanitarian situation in Gaza.
According to accounts, they were accompanied by Turkish National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler, Industry and Technology Minister Mehmet Fatih Kacr, and the Somali delegation.
The discussion comes amid Israel’s bombardment of Gaza was intensified after the military said it was “expanding operations” into the territory.
The communications and internet outage throughout Gaza has continued for more than 12 hours, coinciding with the intensification of air strikes and artillery and naval shelling in various areas.
The Israeli army said on Saturday morning that fighter jets hit 150 “terror tunnels, underground combat spaces and additional underground infrastructure” in overnight raids.
Israeli military spokesman Major Nir Dinar says the country’s troops continue their ground operations inside the Gaza Strip.
Hamas said its fighters have confronted Israeli troops in various locations.
Both Somalia and Turkey believe the Palestinian group Hamas to be a liberation group fighting to protect Palestinian lands.
Mid this month, Somalia’s foreign ministry condemned Israel’s continued bombing of Gaza particularly civilian areas Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza.
The ministry accused Israel of violating international law by committing genocide against Palestinian civilians and denying them access to water, food, and electricity.
