TEHRAN (Halbeeg News) – Somali traders are expected to import over 14,000 tons of cement manufactured in Iran, Irani Media reported on Wednesday.
According to Fars News Agency, the head of Qeshm Free Zone Organization’s Maritime Transport and Port Affairs Pejman Bahrami has announced that over 14,000 tons of cement will soon be exported from the Iranian island to Somalia.
“A 14,500-ton cargo of bagged cement produced in Qeshm will be exported to Somalia on a Tanzanian ship named AMINA-H via Kaveh dock,” Bahrami.
The cargo is expected to be loaded in five days which commenced on Tuesday this week.
Despite having no diplomatic relations between the countries since early 2016 when Somalia cut its ties with Iran, the traders from both sides involved in the trade.
In 2017, Iran exported some $30 million worth of commodities to Somalia.
The export to Somalia had registered a 38% increase in 2017 compared with the year before, according to the Trade Promotion Organization of Iran’s Arabic-African Affairs Office.
The exports mainly included white Portland and hydraulic cement, polyvinyl chloride, biscuit, semi-prepared dough, tile and ceramics, bitumen, chocolate, pharmaceuticals and cast iron dishes, fizzy drinks, polypropylene and ampicillin trihydrate.
