MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Hundreds of Somali secondary schools’ students took to streets on Tuesday to demonstrate against the announcement by the Education Ministry to cancel the ongoing national examination on Monday.
Somali police force fired into the air to disperse the students’ demonstrations that brought the traffic in some parts of the capital, Mogadishu to a standstill for hours.
Minister for Education, Abdullahi Godah Barre ordered the termination of the exam schedule on Monday while describing the process null and void.
He said the alleged suspected education officials who leaked the exams will be investigated and prosecuted for their actions.
The fresh exams will be held from 27th May according to the Ministry.
The decision by the Somali government follows after the exam papers were leakage via social media before the actual time.
More than 31500 students registered for the unified national examinations which are running for the sixth year since its inception.
Students based in the Puntland regional state didn’t take part in the exercise following a declined by the regional administrations’ education officials.
