MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali security agencies have detained a suspected al-Shabaab operative in the capital Mogadishu on Wednesday.
According to Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) officials, the suspect who is a member of al-Shabaab elite unit Amniyat, and was nabbed during an operation conducted at Shibis district on Tuesday evening.
“Suspected member of al-Shabaab’s Amniyat unit was arrested in Yaqshid district by the security agencies,” NISA said in a Twitter account.
The officials believe the unnamed figure was responsible for targeted attacks in Yaqshid and Heliwa districts of Mogadishu before his arrest.
Somali security agencies have intensified security operations in the capital for the past week since simultaneous attacks in the city claimed by al-Shabaab.
The operation comes just hours after a plane carrying senior member of al-Qaida linked group touched down in Mogadishu.
Aden Abdi Mohamed is known as “Aden Obe” who is the member of the consultative council surrendered to the Somali government in Bardheere town in Gedo region on Tuesday.
