MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali security agencies have arrested two al-Shabaab members of the elite unit Amniyat on Thursday.
Somali Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) said the covert operation was conducted at Celasha Biya neighborhood outskirts of Mogadishu.
“Security agencies nabbed two al-Shabaab Amniyat figures in Celesha Biyaha, ” NISA said on its official Twitter account.
“No damages to the security personnel, they will investigate on their ill motives,” the tweet added.
The details of the suspected members of the Somali armed group were not released to the media.
A similar operation was carried out on Wednesday by the security agencies and resulted in the arrest if two suspects in Yaqshid district in the capital.
Security officials said the two were responsible for planned attacks carried out in the city earlier.
Somali security apparatus intensified operations in the capital and the Lower Shabelle region in recent weeks in an effort to pre-empt al-Shabaab attacks ahead of the holy month of Ramadan next month.
