MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Three Somali football referees officiated historic African Cup of Nations qualifier in Kinshasa.
Referee, Hassan Mohamed Haji, lineman, Hamza Haji Abdi and referee assistant, Mahad Gentleman were responsible during a crucial match between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Gabon which ended goalless.
This is a second match by Somali citizens to officiate a match by Arsenal star, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.
In 2016, an experienced Somali referee, Hassan Wish officiate Emerick Aubameyang side.
Somali sports have grown in past years since relative peace has returned in the country following the deployment of the international peacekeeping mission helped Somali national army push armed group al-Shabaab push out of the most part of the country.
Somalia’s biggest sports facility, the Mogadishu stadium which is undergoing renovation will open its door soon for international sports activities.
The Norwegian government is providing the funds to rebuild the Chinese built sports village in the early 1970s during President, Mohamed Siyad Barre’s government.
