MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has called upon the police force to maintain human rights during their efforts to ensure security.
The head of state has also urged the law and order agency to improve their relationship with members of the public.
President Farmajo was speaking during a surprise visit to Banadir police headquarters on Sunday evening where he held meeting with the Somali Police Force Commissioner, General Bashir Abdi Mohamed, Deputy Police Commissioner, Colonel Zakia Hussein and commanders of the police stations across the city.
“The president paid surprise visit while we were busy on our security meeting,” Somali Police Force Deputy Commissioner, Colonel Zakia Hussein said.
“He stressed close cooperation with the public and intensify security operations.” She added.
The meeting between the President and commissioners of the police comes days after Rickshaw drivers clashed with the police following the death of a colleague on Sunday.
Meanwhile, the police have filed charges against more than 40 suspects who they said took part in last week’s demonstrations in the capital that destroyed properties and lootings.
