One of Somalia’s prominent diplomats on Monday died at the age 99, Somali Presidency confirmed.
Abdirahim Abby Farah, Somalia’s Permanent Representative to the UN (1965-1972) has passed away at his home in New York of United States.
Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has condoled with the family and the friends of the deceased.
“We belong to Allah and to Him we shall return, I convey my condolences to Somali people on the death of Abdirahim Abby Farah, May Allah have mercy on him and [May Allah]comfort and strengthen his family and relatives,” said President Farmajo.
Farah who held a number high-profile diplomatic posts began his career with Trust Territory of Somaliland before he joined area during Somalia’s civilian government and the era of late General Mohamed Siyad Barre.
Between 1961-1965 he served as Somalia’s ambassador to Ethiopia.
Farah who was brought up in Barry Wales has also served as the Undersecretary-General for Special Political Questions between 1973 and 1978.
He was stalwart among diplomats Somalia had since independence.
Farah is survived by five children who live in Europe and the United States.
