A delegation led by Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has reached Beledweyne town on Monday.
The President and his delegation are expected to assess the situation of the town following heavy floods splashed by River Shabelle.
Mr. Farmajo is scheduled to visit some of the town’s suburbs affected by the floods.
The President’s visit comes on the heel of intensifying floods after River Shabelle breached its banks.
Hiran Governor, Abdullahi Ahmed Moalim who spoke to the media this morning said five people had been killed in Hiran region following heavy floods inundated the region.
Moalim pointed out that some of the victims have drowned after the floods washed them away.
“Five people including two children were killed in the floods after River Shabelle broke its banks in Beledweyne town,” said Moalim.
The governor called on the government and humanitarian aid agencies to respond urgently before the situation turns into tragic.
“We urge the Federal Government and humanitarian agencies help these flood victims in the region. People have no place to sleep, clothes, clean water to drink, food and medicine,” said the governor.
