SHARM EL-SHEIKH (Halbeeg News)-Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo has met with his Iraqi counterpart, Barham Salih on the sidelines of EU-Arab in Sharma El-Sheikh.
During the meeting, the two leaders discussed the bilateral relations between Somalia and Iraq.
They also talked about issues that affect Arab countries as well as Muslim states.
Both leaders underscored the need to enhance the relations of their countries on political, trade and education cooperation.
The leaders also highlighted the common problems of their countries including the fight against terrorism and rebel groups in their respective countries.
In a Twitter post, Villa Somalia said President Farmajo was supposed to have also held a meeting with several other leaders from Europe countries.
“Somali President met Italian leader Giuseppe Contel and Swedish PM, Stefan Lofven on the margins of LaS-EU Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh. The LaS-EU Summit is timely and solidifies the existing strong relations between our two sides,” the Twitter post said.
During Arab-EU which kicked off on Sunday, Arab and European leaders pledged at their first joint summit to fight terrorism together.
The two-day meeting is intended to strengthen Arab-European ties and address a wide range of common challenges. Among the issues on the leaders’ agenda are multilateralism, trade and investment, migration, security and the situation in the region.
Europe’s migration challenge from the Middle East and North Africa is also at the heart of the two-day meeting.
