Somali President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo on Sunday held talks with UN ans AU envoys on AMISOM, Jean-Marie and Ramtane Lamamra respectively at Somalia’s Presidential Palace in Mogadishu.
The leaders discussed a wide range of issues touching on the fund for AMISOM and Somalia’s security transition.
Both sides agreed on the strengthening the relations between Somalia and African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) which is put in place to support Somalia in peace and stability restoration.
The President urged the envoys to help the country in accelerating the fight against Al-Shabab which controls some parts of the South and central regions.
In February, Somali President vowed to increase operations against Al-Shabab fighters.
He said the government in collaboration with the government of United States would annihilate Al-Shabab.
Mr. Farmajo has been commanding the army’s preparation to launch new offensives against the group.
Since the beginning of this year, Somali forces backed by AMISOM have seized several villages and towns in Bay, Bakool and Middle and Lower Shabelle regions.
AMISOM troop that are mainly drawn from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibouti and Burundi were deployed in the country in 2007.
Mission is expected to pull out its troops from Somalia in 2020.
