Riyadh, (Halbeeg News) – There is an urgent need for the creation of a Palestinian state to ensure lasting peace in the Middle East, Somalia’s president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has said.
President Mohamud made the call while addressing the ongoing Extraordinary Summit of the Arab States and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
He emphasized that the conflict in Gaza transcends politics and ideology, rooted deeply in human rights, dignity, and justice noting that the people of Lebanon and Palestine continue to face severe humanitarian crises due to the conflict.
“The only viable solution for peace in the Middle East is the establishment of a Palestinian state with its 1967 borders and Jerusalem as its capital,” President Mohamud stated.
He called upon the international community and leaders at the summit to take immediate action, proposing an urgent ceasefire and a return to the negotiating table
Further, President Mohamud urged the international community to provide emergency aid to those affected by the conflict and to support efforts towards a two-state solution, emphasizing the importance of diplomacy and collective action to prevent further escalation and to achieve a just and lasting peace in the region.
The summit, attended by leaders from across the Arab world and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, serves as a platform for discussing regional issues and coordinating efforts to address the humanitarian and political challenges facing the Middle East.
President Mohamud’s call for Palestinian statehood resonates with the broader international community’s efforts to promote peace and stability in the region. The United Nations and other international organizations have long advocated for a two-state solution as the only path to a sustainable peace.
As the summit continues, the focus remains on finding practical solutions to the ongoing conflicts and ensuring that the rights and dignity of all people in the Middle East are respected and upheld.
