Nairobi, (Halbeeg News) – Federal government of Somalia president Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is in Kenya on an official visit where he is scheduled to hold bilateral talks with his Kenyan counterpart William Ruto.
Sources privy to details of the meeting say the two sides will discuss various issues of mutual interest including security, economic and peace in the Horn of Africa region.
Also, the two leaders will discuss the support needed by Somalia as it prepares to take over security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) which is scheduled to conclude its drawdown exercise by the end of the year.
President Mohamud has made similar visits to other ATMIS troop contributing nations including Djibouti, Burundi, and Uganda to discuss security coordination, economic partnerships, and the transition from ATMIS.
The President’s meetings are part of a wider strategy to ensure smooth shift as Somalia prepared to take full responsibility for its security from ATMIS and the establishment of the new African Union Somalia Mission (AUSSOM).
