Somali Police force have taken full charge of Somali capital, Mogadishu through what is suspected to be security shake up in wake of several blasts in the city for the last one month.
Mogadishu Stabilization Forces who have been handling the security of the city for the last twelve months were replaced with police, sources confirm.
Somali government on Saturday night deployed the police forces at the checkpoints and roads initially manned by the Stabilization forces.
Abdifatah Omar Halane, the spokesman for Benadir Region who spoke to media said the stabilization Forces were returned to their garrisons.
“(Initially) the stabilization forces were tasked with inspections and security searches, but now the forces who were manning the checkpoints at Maka Al-Murakarama and Wadnaha roads were replaced with Police officers. The Stabilization were deployed at Sodonk and Industrial roads,” said Halane.
The roads vacated by the stabilization Forces are Dabka, Km4, Benadir, Wadnaha and several roads other roads in capital.
The over 1,500 Mogadishu Stabilization Force were formed in May last year so as to speed up the security of the city and avert possible security threats planned by security spoilers.
The force operated alongside with the military, intelligence agency, NISA and the police.
During this period, the forces launched operations to clear weapons from the city.
