MOGADISHU ( Halbeeg News) – The Somali police force has dismissed circulated social media reports that it has restricted the operations of the private Amin ambulance services in Mogadishu.
The deputy police commissioner, Colonel Zakia Hussein said there is no directive issued by police to stop the services of the paramedic as reported by some sections of the local media.
“The Somali police force wants to clarify that there no directives issued to halt the services of Amin ambulance,” Col. Zakia said in a Facebook post.
She said the Somali police force will closely cooperate with the Amin ambulance while working towards the consolidation of all emergency medical services in the country.
“I want to appreciate the work of Amin ambulance and all other emergency services that are voluntarily involved in providing rescue operations,” Deputy police commissioner said.
“We are committed to face the emergency issues in an organized manner and avoid mix up,” she added.
The police requested the citizens to make use of the emergency number 991 to seek for help when the need arises.
Meanwhile, the pioneer of the Amin ambulance emergency services, Dr. Abdulkadr Abdulrahman Adan said they received verbal communication from the authorities to cease accessing explosion sites until security clearance.
Speaking during an interview with the BBC Focus on Africa program Dr. Adan said they will continue their emergency ambulance services provision until official communication from the authorities.
On his part, the director of communications at Villa Somalia, Abdinur Mohamed Ahmed argued that the security agencies must closely monitor the movement of medical emergency services for security purposes.
