MOGADISHU (Halbeeg News) – Somali police have said they confiscated a cache of weapons during an operation conducted outskirts the capital, Mogadishu on Saturday evening.
The search at Elasha Biyaha outside the capital discovered a range of weapons including explosive devices, suicide belt, remote detonators, grenades, cartridge, ammunition, wires, and other EID making materials.
Somali Deputy Police Commissioner, Colonel Zakia Hussein confirmed the seizure is the largest discovery by the security agencies so far.
“The cache found hidden in an underground store is the biggest discoveries by the security agencies,” Col. Zakia said.
Deputy Police Commissioner added the discovery was the result of an ongoing security operation in and around the Somali capital by multi-agency Somali security forces.
Col. Zakia thanked members of the public for closely cooperating with the security officers operations on.
“We appreciate the cooperation by the residents of the capital and making our operations success, ” she said.
Meanwhile, Somali police said they nabbed more than 35 people were arrested in operation conducted in Afgoye on Friday and 14 others in Sabid town.
Suspected al-Shabaab fugitive responsible for explosive attacks operation is in custody and expected to be arraigned in court.
The discovery of the deadly weapons come at the times when parliament summon the Internal Security Minister, Mohamed Abukar Islaw and his Defense counterpart.
